How to check an opportunity before you act
A short method for confirming that an opening is real, current and right for you.
1. Start at the original source
Open the issuing organisation's own website rather than a repost. Confirm the page is on the organisation's official domain and that the reference number, title and deadline match what you were shown.
2. Confirm it is still open
Look for a stated closing date and any amendments or clarifications. If no date is published, contact the issuer before investing time.
3. Read eligibility literally
Note every requirement — location, registration, turnover, experience, partners. If you do not meet one, ask the issuer rather than assume flexibility.
4. Be wary of fees
Legitimate tenders, grants and employers rarely ask for payment to apply. Treat upfront fees, urgency and requests for personal documents by email as warning signs.
